In-Betweenness is a poetic investigation of soft power. Two dancers move through a liminal space of transition, challenging and supporting each other in a continuous exchange of weight, power and manipulation. The sound design reflects the familiar and distorted, transformed through live-processed input from the dancers voice. A transparent process unfolds as the performers play with subtle nuances of power— through movement, voice and text.

The work explores fantasies of soft power— the ability to influence the behaviour of others to get what you want. Soft power achieves influence by building networks, communicating convincingly, establishing rules and drawing on the resources that make your narrative attractive. Inspired by these qualities, the performance unfolds as an aesthetically poetic exploration of power structures. The work stands as a commentary on an equality debate with several polarising tendencies, inviting the audience in to reflect, experience and question inherited patterns of behaviour that affect the roles we assume.
